Patient support

The diagnosis of a cardiac condition can leave a person and family feeling vulnerable and isolated.

SADS UK has support contacts who have lived with a cardiac condition for a longer period of time and can provide encouragement and support.

From left to right above Joanna Quigley-Phipps SADS UK Patient Co-ordinator, Susan Murray and Brenda Irons, lead patient support contacts.

Teenagers and adults who are living with an Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator (ICD) are also happy to speak with others who may be newly implanted with the device, or about to have one fitted.   SADS UK holds an annual short break for individuals and families living with cardiac conditions, to give people the opportunity to speak with others in similar situations to themselves.

Patient support for Young People

Rosa, Alex and Daniel correspond by email or Facebook.

Young people can subscribe free to the Young People’s Newsletter.

The newsletter enables youngsters to share feelings with other young people and learn more about support and events available. This Newsletter is distributed electronically via their parent or guardian. The British Heart Foundation have an excellent website forum for teenagers living with heart conditions:

Short Breaks for Patients

SADS UK holds short breaks for patients during the school summer holidays in July. The break is a great opportunity to meet other families living with a cardiac condition. SADS UK makes these breaks affordable for families as we realise how valuable it is to be able to speak to other people in similar circumstances to yourself.
